“Awakening The Sleeping Dragon…”
It was in attending my second clinic conducted by Great-GrandMaster Villari at the Natick school in November 1975 that GGM Villari offered us insight and encouragement as to what to pay attention to… and what makes a difference… in increasing our possibilities to realize more and more of our potential. He encouraged us…and challenged us.
“The Spine is the ‘Dragon’ that connects everything for your Power…Pay Attention to the Spine and learn to move and relax your spine to ‘Be Your Best’. Be a beginner…or Be advanced. To Be Advanced is to Learn to “Awaken the ‘Sleeping Dragon’… Half of ALL POWER… Comes from Knowing ‘HOW’ and ‘WHEN’ TO Relax”. Most people just try harder with what they already know and that’s not it. Be Smarter.”
Not only was this valuable advice and insight at the time…I have found it more and more True over time…and I am continuing to learn from this and find it more and more True every day.
“Awaken The ‘Sleeping Dragon’ Qi-Gong”
The following exercise is often considered an Essential Core Practice that both stands alone and adds value to any and all other Qi-Gong practices. It is intended to assist you in discovering how to feel a gentle, yet more and more continuous wave of physical feeling much like a “slinky” subtly flowing from the base of your spine up your back into the skull. This opening and allowing more space, rotation and improved nutrition to each vertebra, disc and area around is the essential point. More range of movement and coordination of more and more continuous physical movement itself is the initial focus of the practice and lays the foundation of much, much more for both power, healing and well-being.
Never Push! … which interestingly slows you down unnecessarily. Best progress is made with developing the “Listening-Mind” of the Masters. This movement is timed and coordinated with each and every breath with the Mind continuously focused both feeling and observing the wave-like movement at the same time letting go of any unnecessary tension and/or other thoughts that may come and go. This exercise is also taught for “Soft-Power” concentration that Predictably Strengthens the Mind for Bravery in Battle as it recognized how and when to let go of distractions and choose to stay focused in the Present.
“Arrive by Letting Go” Zen Warrior Practice
Just Intend to “Open , Invite and Allow” by seeing where you are starting from…what is moving and what is not as much right now…and “gently melt the stagnant area” with the gentle movement with each breath in a subtle wave of physical movement from bottom to top. Just“start from where you are each time…and ‘Let It Be Interesting…Not Important” to actually make quickest progress. Practice Makes the Master…Rhythm and Frequency Predict Success!
