More in Depth “Awaken the Sleeping Dragon”
Sit in a chair where your hips are slightly higher or level with your knees. Sit on the front 1/3 of the seat away from the back rest and with both feet flat on the floor. We are encouraged to focus on Quality with short frequent visits rather than thinking “more is better” in any one session. This was a very specific instruction. “Make Friends with” being able to come to the benefits of the practice in fewer cycles of breathing with less and less practice ,,,not more and more practice. Closer and closer to “Instant-On…Always Available…thus Trustworthy. All Relationships are Built on Trust!
Close your eyes and gently look down at the inside tip of your nose. Simply observe your breath “As-It-Is” in this moment without any desire to change it in any way. We begin the “Journey” by starting from where you are. The “Best You Can” for right now, breathe in the nose and allow the diaphragm to go down as you let the belly expand. When you breathe out, breathe out the nose to increase reserve Energy…or breathe out the mouth to release any unnecessary tension as you find it in body or Mind.
The next time you breathe in…and each time you breathe in…gently press the front half of your foot down into the floor (Kidney 1) and gently lean back slightly with the whole spine allowing it to gently lengthen and feel uplifted slightly in as wave from bottom to top. You may notice that you can also slightly bring the elbows and shoulders back which will allow the rolling wave to go a little higher…and a little higher. When you get to the head let the top of the head somehow reach for the ceiling as you actually slightly lower the chin and move the whole head back a little releasing tension… all without any struggle.
After you finish the breath in just suspend your breath in for as long as it is comfortable and Balance somehow Releasing Any Tension You Find in Body or Mind …somehow feeling the top half of your head floating slightly uplifted somehow.
When it comes time to breathe out through mouth or nose…whatever feel most appropriate right now…pull more and more everything around and below your navel more and more towards your spine as you breathe out…. As you do, gently lean forward slightly as you breathe out and again press slightly more down on the front half of your foot increasing slightly as you are breathing out.
So there is a gently a rocking back and lengthening as you rise, slightly lean back when you are breathing in…suspending the breath in for as long as it is comfortable and “Float”…then breathing out letting your self come slightly forward, pulling the belly back to the spine and pressing down slightly on the front half of your foot a little more and a little more as you breathe out.
In the advanced stages…when it is easy… you also begin to suspend the breath out and “Float in Quietude” after the exhale. (More Later!) For now, just let it roll from breath out to breath in…floating without movement in between as long as it is comfortable.
We are guided to have “Frequent Short Visits Throughout the Day” rather than trying too hard or thinking that “more is better” somehow. GGM Villari has always been Very Clear… that You Are Looking to Have Your Skill and Power Very Natural and Ever-Present. He concluded that day’s seminar by saying “Fighting Is Very Natural…Fighting Is As Natural As Walking.”
This Exercise has Value on Many Levels AND Benefits are Both Immediate and Cumulative.
